Farm to Pantry – Nourishing Neighbors, Strengthening Farms

At Steger Family Farms, we believe real food should nourish every family — not just those who can afford it. That’s why we proudly partner with Farm to Pantry, a Washington State program that connects local farmers with local food banks to get fresh, nutritious food to those who need it most.

What Is Farm to Pantry?

Farm to Pantry is a statewide initiative managed by Harvest Against Hunger in partnership with the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA). It uses funds from the Emergency Food Assistance Program (EFAP) to purchase farm-fresh food — including meat, dairy, and produce — directly from small to mid-sized farms like ours.

This food is then distributed to food pantries, meal sites, and hunger relief organizations throughout Washington, helping to ensure families facing food insecurity have access to high-quality, locally raised products.

Why It Matters

For farmers, this program provides a consistent market — which means more stability during uncertain seasons. For food banks, it brings fresh, local food to the table — a welcome change from the typical canned or processed options.

And for families, it means receiving real nourishment:

  • Clean, locally sourced protein like our USDA-inspected pork
  • Produce grown with care right here in the volcanic valleys of SW Washington
  • A sense of dignity that comes with receiving food raised by neighbors, not factories

How We’re Involved

Steger Family Farms has been honored to contribute to this incredible program. We work closely with food distribution partners to deliver frozen pork products that meet USDA standards, providing communities with clean, high-protein options that often aren’t available at typical food banks.

It’s a full-circle kind of giving — from our farm, to a local pantry, to a family in need.

This program not only helps us sustain our family farm, but also allows us to live out our mission: to raise real food, the right way, and share it with those who need it most.
